Smelling like a rose

Once and for all it has been proven, we have found out what the oh so wonderful "Liloia" smell is and it is not the smell of rotting garbage. Apparently, International Flavors and Fragrances has bottled the very essence of "Liloia" and it has been described by an inside chemist as "a flowery, spacey, metal-like fragrance...the fragrance Liloia smells nice."

Hah! Vindicated once and for all!

Man, you miss a few days online and the next thing you know, you're out of the loop. I just found out that Christine works at IFF - which is fascinating. IFF and other flavor/fragrance companies are the focus of an entire chapter of Fast Food Nation.

The fragrance and taste of processed food has to be added back in with chemicals because they often disappear during processing. There is even a liquid chemical compound that smells exactly like a grilling hamburger. So much for flame-broiled...
