Harry Potter - Book 5

Last night (this morning) around 3 AM I finished the 5th book in J.K. Rowlings series - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Wow. It was great.

For long time Harry Potter fans, you will not be disappointed as Rowling gives us lots more of the characters we love and greater insight into Harry and the mystery that surrounds him. At almost 900 pages it was a bit daunting, but it turned out to be an easy read. This book was clearly written with movie visuals in mind and as I hit each new chapter I was excited at the ultimate prospect of getting to see it on the silver screen in a few years.

Creepy, Dave. I only beat you to the last page by about 15 minutes. I definitely agree that it's a good book and well worth slogging through the 870 pages, but I have to admit I was nervous at first... after about six chapters, I wasn't all that engaged and I thought, for a moment, that my expectations had gotten ahead of me. I was pleasantly surprised, right around "Christmas", to find that I was losing track of time as I just kept turning pages--sign of a good book if ever there was one.

I can agree with that one. The first half of the book was not as compelling as the second half, but wasn't that expected? It fits Rowlings formula and besides if she put all the good bits in the front then why would it have to be 900 pages long?

Of course I am saying all of this and the first half only took me a day. Just like pizza, even if the HP had been bad (which it wasn't) it still would have been great.

Hmmmm. There must be something seriously wrong with me. By the end of chapter 3 I had popped open the bottle of antacid tablets and had chewed my fingernails down to the quick.

I thought in this book Rowling brought the level of tension up right off the bat, instead of steadily building it to climax around a known pivotal point (i.e. the tri-wizard cup, the fighting of the basilisk, etc).I was really impressed with the level of unease introduced in chapter one that steadily became more intense and confusing until it reached its goal at a certain point we will not disuss here. Anyway, I loved it. It will be interesting to hear the different opinions people hold on this volume of the series.

yea, the book was verrry tipical of JK's formula, *******************, however i found this book just as good as the others besides all the rumors that i expected to be seen in it.

- this post was edited so that it didn't give away any of the story to people who haven't read it yet

and this thing had no end .......why????i didnt like this book at all.i expected much better thibgs in this.atleast an end to voldemorts power.the book was not at all impressive.i liked the 3rd bookk the most.plz jk rowling write better books in the future and make black alive again or else i think noone will read your book.plz plz maintain ur standard.book 5 was not good.there was no story.and harryy has really gone mad .wat does he think of himself???is he really cool or wat why is he always shouting.the only characters i like are albus dumbledore and minerva mcgonagall and hermione.thats alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

the death of Sirius Black (this guy has character, whoa) was disappointing. sad, but i have high hopes that he would still be in book 6 given the VEIL thingy.

the story unexpectedly ground to a stop. i never thought that something so loaded with new characters and new twists could end just like that. honestly, i was expecting more from grawp, from luna lovegood, from kreacher and his mistress, from the Order and from Voldemort -- after all the build up.

i hope there is a point in ending the story so abruptly, it may not be apparent right now..but maybe in the next volumes.

im still a fan though. :)

I know Sirius' death was horrible but it really was quite logical: 1, the war with Voldemort would've seemed to fairytale-ish if all members of the Order survived, & 2, Harry was in danger of finding somewhere to stay where he would've been happy: Grimmauld Place. Half the fun of the beginnings of the harry potter books is reading about the Dursley's horrible behaviour to Harry. & now Sirius is dead, the Order will need to find a new Headquarters... unless Sirius left it to Harry...
