First Tattoo

I have decided what I want for my first tattoo.

This is a rough drawing of it, although it includes all of the elements of what I am looking for. The picture is of an atom (in this case it is Deuterium or Heavy Hydrogen a naturally occuring isotope of Hydrogen)

Here are some details about the tatto
- I want it all in black or dark blue
- Approx 2-3 inches across

Now I just need someone with artistic ability to take a crack at drawing it up for me.

Why deuterium?

It is just chance that it happens to be deuterium (and that I work for a company that sells radioactive isotopes!)

The design is actually quite deliberate.


  • The atom represents my love of science
  • The nucleus is me (proton) and Tara (neutron)
  • The electron is Trevor
  • If we have more children I can add them according to the rules for additional valence level electrons
  • Because Trevor and I are males we are both the hollow circles with Tara as the solid circle
  • Trevor is slanted towards Tara because he is closer to her than to me, mostly because he and I are so alike
