Music Downloads

Of late, I have been spending a lot of time listening to bands like Nerf Herder and Weezer. I just recently found out that you could classify them as Geekcore, so if anyone knows other good geekcore bands, please let me know.

So, Nerf Herder isn't releasing any more music (I have all their CD's) and I wanted to listen to some new, similar bands. But then there is always the pesky legalities of downloading music. How to avoid this? Take out the record companies. Without them, most music is free.

For most bands this is not possible, but for indy bands that aren't signed yet this is totally acceptable. In fact, most of them want you to snag their music and get the word out there.

CNET has a great site dedicated to this very act. Thousands of indy/unsigned bands can list their mp3's and some information about themselves. Visitors can download their music for free without the legal strings attached. w00t!

Check it out. I found a page for The Soviettes which is another band I picked up on in the last few weeks.
