Rescue Me
Over the last few years many of the smaller networks have capitalized on the summer hiatus taken by the major networks by releasing their own programming.
Two years ago the favorites were (and still are) Monk and The Dead Zone from USA Network.
This summer the program of choice is Rescue Me by FX Networks. I am watching the most recent episode right now and once again it isn't a dissapointment. Great characters, gritty story, believable situations. Fan-fugu-tastic.

VT - A go go...
Day three of our visit here in South Burlington VT. We have signed our lease, setup Trevor for school, and gotten our bearings a little more than before.
Trevor and I have been swimming each and every day, and getting what little sun is available here in Vermont. It hasn't been hot at all but warm enough to make the swimming fun.
We surprised Tara yesterday and nabbed another room via Priceline (w00t) for Saturday night. Today is the first day I am actually begining to relax and feel like I am on vacation. Now if I could sneak a nap in somewhere, this week would be all set.

ACLU...
American Civil Lobsters Union?
I saw this sign on the way home from the bookstore yesterday. Are they trying to hire twin lobsters? Can you discriminate against all other lobsters who would like to be on your waitstaff?
What kind of freaky stuff do you have going on in your club that you need twin lobsters for it?
Ok, so I am tired and slappy. But this seemed funny to me when I wasn't. :)
Music Downloads
Of late, I have been spending a lot of time listening to bands like Nerf Herder and Weezer. I just recently found out that you could classify them as Geekcore, so if anyone knows other good geekcore bands, please let me know.
So, Nerf Herder isn't releasing any more music (I have all their CD's) and I wanted to listen to some new, similar bands. But then there is always the pesky legalities of downloading music. How to avoid this? Take out the record companies. Without them, most music is free.
For most bands this is not possible, but for indy bands that aren't signed yet this is totally acceptable. In fact, most of them want you to snag their music and get the word out there.
CNET has a great site dedicated to this very act. Thousands of indy/unsigned bands can list their mp3's and some information about themselves. Visitors can download their music for free without the legal strings attached. w00t!
Check it out. I found a page for The Soviettes which is another band I picked up on in the last few weeks.
11 hours
In 11 hours I will be in Vermont seeing Tara. Too excited to go to sleep. One more post and then I will force myself to lay down.

Trevor's Writing Journal
Trev finished up his last week of summer camp on Friday. Along with the bouncing 5 year old, they sent a stack of papers, art projects and other goodies. This afternoon I took some time to go through them all and sort it out. I came across this writing journal that he must have made sometime over the last few weeks.
It was pretty cute and I wanted to share it with Tara who isn't here. This is the best method. Feel free to click through to see what's cooking in Trev's head.

This one is a little hard to read, but it says "Mommy, I love you" in the picture and then it says "Mommy visited me" in the text on the bottom. He must have made this picture the week after Tara received her last minute credentials for the DNC and was able to sneak down here for the weekend. Although he never mentions missing her, he screamed with glee when we picked her up.

School field trip to the Swan Boats

Last weekend we visited my family in NJ. My brother Paul (not Pole, although I am sure he appreciates that) gave Trevor a Hot Wheels car while we were there. It apparently made a big impression with him!

This is the Transformer character "Hot Shot". Note the action lines. This is apparently indicating not only the locations that parts move, but specific direction. His explaination lasted 5 minutes.

Trevor's birthday is coming up in the next few weeks. Along with the streamers on the sides and balloons along the top, apparently he is experiencing another birthday tradition. The tradition of assaulting the guest of honor with water balloons. This is not something that I am familiar with, but I am more than willing to take part if it means I can throw things at the boy! :)

And last but not least is Trevor's interpretation on us moving at the end of the month. A few minutes ago while moving laundry he said to me "Daddy moving is hard". To which I responded "Yeah, there are a lot of things to do to get ready". To which he puncuated with "Yeah, and I'm not doing any of them"
Zing. Back to packing....

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' (I found it!) but 'That's funny ...'

No Bush
Ok, so I can't speak for the rest of the country but late night TV doesn't seem to like Bush.
The Daily Show
Tough Crowd
Late Show with David Letterman
I wonder what they will talk about next February.

Been too long
without a post.
The last few days have been spent trying to chill out. I had a great time this past weekend and probably have a lot to talk about here but haven't had a chance to yet.
Things are starting to pick up speed for the move to Vermont.
- Apartment issues here are all settled
- Condo in VT is rented (and apparently really nice!)
(I haven't seen it yet)
- Truck rented
- 75% of apartment packed
- School for Trev is setup
- Utilities identified
- We may have a clunker for Tara to drive up there
Now I have to reach out to all of my friends to get help packing the truck in a few weeks. Without them, I am going to be really stuck.

Friday Night...Chilling out
After a few weeks of running around like a madman, I am finally taking some time to chill out. This weekend Trevor and I are hanging out with my parents in New Jersey.
I am totally wiped out and will definitely be sleeping in over the next few days. Also I am hoping to catch up with Adam and Stone for a little while.
Trevor is having some fun playing with the kids that live next door to my parents. Here is a shot of them playing in the yard.

Someone explain this to me
Please, help me understand this.
Fahrenheit 9/11 is rated R for "for some violent and disturbing images, and for language"

But AvP: Alien vs. Predator - a movie about a race of aliens whose entire purpose in life is to hunt and kill anything that moves versus a bloodthirsty vicious monster who knows nothing other than the hunger for killing. Oh, and a hapless band of humans gets caught in the middle. I am assuming that they will be picked off one by one in gruesome attacks until the last two (one man and one woman) figure out an ingenious (aka - really lame) plan to stop them.

So apparently Fahrenheit 9/11 received an R rating because it had only "some" violent and disturbing images, but if you FILL the ENTIRE MOVIE with violence and disturbing images, somehow the rating goes back down to PG-13.
Don't get me wrong, I am a comic book geek and I have my share of Dark Horse AvP comics from back in the day. I want to see this movie (without my kid) and find out who kicks whose ass.

My E-Kid
Today I was sitting in the kitchen talking to Tara on IM, when Trevor came in. I asked him if he wanted to say hello to her; which he did. Tara received the message and responded like this:
Tara: HI TREVOR!!!!! I MISS YOU!!!!
Trevor turns to me and say without skipping a beat and says:
"Why is mommy yelling at us?"
Only in my house does the five year old have better Netiquite than most adults. How cool is it that he realizes CAPS LOCK is yelling?
I think I will keep him at least another week.
:)
