Trevor Eats Scrabble for Breakfast

ScrabbleContinuing the geek theme...

Even at nine, Trevor is a formidable Scrabble foe. At one point, he made PUBLIC, then later created REPUBLIC, to which I countered with REPUBLICAN. With triple word scores, we were getting 50-40 points per turn. At the end of the game, we were within seven points of each other.

But what does it say about me that I can come within an inch of being beaten by a fourth-grader? 'Course, we were playing loosey-goosey "It's Almost Bedtime" rules in which you get 14 tiles at a time and proper nouns are fine.

You know you are a nerd when....

You say goodnight to your son as your Druid charachter on Diablo II: LOD.

Seriously, now that Trevor is old enough to play online, this is a really cool way to spend some time with him when I am away from home, which these days is a lot. He's actually a pretty good player.

And yes, I am a total geek. Bring it.

Norrin

Norrin

Kittens are like candy. Sometimes you just want a big jar full of them.

This is Norrin. If you google his name, you'll be able to guess who named him.

I rememember when Miley was this small... she was just cowering in the corner and crying her first three days here. Now she's sitting on faces at 3:00am and stealing souls.

My, they grow up so fast.

Best Headphones so far....

The wire on my iPod headphones has been wearing away for some time, so I have been planning on retiring them at some point. Over the last year or so I have admired the Skullcandy headphones mostly for their slick designs but I have always held off.

Today I was in a Staples in NJ and noticed that they had a new version called the Smokin Ink'd Buds (I am linking to Google because for some reason they don't have them on their website) which were only $12.99. I figured that it couldn't hurt to try so I picked up a set of Blue Chrome buds.

There are very likely the best headphones I have ever used. The sound is rich and quite loud and I can feel the bass coming right through the headphones. There is also a set of three gel inserts that come in different sizes to give you a perfect fit for your specific ear shape, which also does an excellent job of blocking out the ambient noise around you (such as Newark airport where I am right now!)

In reading some reviews around the web many others seem to be in agreement with me, and also noted that their other ear buds (plain vanilla "Smokin Earbuds) sucked it hard. Not to mention they are between $24.99 and $26.99. They apparently come with an in-line control which is nice, but the overall sound quality was poor.

If you need some buds, and are willing to drop 12 bucks on trying some out, I would reccomend you pick up a pair. Also, they come in 5 or 6 decently cool colors (Blue, Green, White, Black, Pink...) with their skull logo on them.

Oh, Tara I got you a present too.... :)

Duck Hunt

Duck_hunt_screenshot.pngToday is either the start of hunting season, or someone is staging a coup on the Champlain Islands.

UPDATE: I checked the Vermont Fish and Wildlife department and today apparently marks the start of the hunting season for Ducks, Coots and Mergansers. Run away, mergansers... run away!

P.S. Shotguns are effective alarm clocks.

TSA is so diculous...

...that it's ridiculous.

So I am waiting to board a flight to Newark, NJ this morning and in the long security line I hear the TSA agent say the following...

"No liquids are allowed past the security checkpoint. This includes coffee, soda, juice, and WATER!"

And she followed it up with...

"Except milk or juice for the little ones..."

Errrrrrrrrt? (Combo of tires squealing.and Scooby Doo proclaiming a question)

So from this I take four key points:

- Parents traveling with kids should pour their coffee into their kids sippee cups

- Children allergic to milk and juice are not allowed to fly

- Terrorists need only to travel with a child to bring contraband on board, and really...they are terrorists so what do they care if they take out a kid with everyone else

- Our country is run (both government and industry) by people who are mildly retarted. Like who sat in a room and hear that exception and said "Yeah, that makes sense!"

More later...
